After a wild post-game scene, the OHL is making the Ottawa 67’s and Kingston Frontenacs dig into their financial institution accounts.
The Frontenacs have been fined $3,500 for coach Troy Mann’s “inappropriate verbal engagement with the opposing workforce, resulting in confrontational actions within the dressing room space following the conclusion of the sport” on Sunday, the league introduced on Thursday.
The 67’s, in the meantime, can pay the league $2,500 for coach Dave Cameron’s “inappropriate actions looking for confrontation across the dressing room space following the conclusion of the sport.”
Postmedia Ottawa’s Don Brennan reported the 2 veteran coaches, each of whom used to work for the Ottawa Senators group, needed to be held again by off-ice officers after Kingston’s 3-2 extra time win.
The disagreement stemmed from the end of the sport between the geographical and divisional rivals. Kingston’s Tuomas Uronen, a former 67, scored with 2.8 seconds left in extra time and held a finger to his lips to sign that he had silenced the Ottawa crowd.
Brennan reported that 67’s defenceman Matthew Mayich stood near the Frontenacs’ on-ice celebration, which precipitated Mann to talk to the participant.
This apparently angered Cameron.
“I take exception to grownup coaches yelling at gamers,” Cameron advised Postmedia. “That’s all I’m going to say.”
Mann acknowledged he did have a phrase with Mayich.
“Mayich was simply sort of standing round, and I stated, ‘Are you able to simply go, go away the blokes alone?’ Like, why is he standing 10 ft from our workforce? I’m allowed, as a head coach, to inform these guys, ‘Go see your individual guys.’ He began chirping me, and that was it. I got here off,” Mann stated.
Minutes later, issues bought heated outdoors the dressing rooms.
Earlier than they finally retreated, Brennan reported Mann shouted: “Good (bleeping) job on the world juniors, Cameron.”
Cameron was the coach of a Canadian workforce that misplaced within the quarterfinals to Czechia at this yr’s world junior championship in Ottawa.
Cameron is a former Senators head coach, whereas Mann is an ex-coach of the AHL’s Belleville Senators.
The Frontenacs are third within the Japanese Convention, whereas the 67’s are ninth getting into the ultimate 4 days of the season.
